CHESHIRE — Wahconah girls basketball coach Liz Kay knew her team was ready to handle the moment.
Early in the fourth quarter against five-time reigning Western Massachusetts champion and No. 3 Hoosac Valley, the Warriors found themselves in a spot that many teams have crumbled in before them. Maybe it was youthful ignorance or maybe it was the hunger of a team ready to knock the champs off the throne, but the Warriors withstood the pressure and pulled away for a 42-33 win in quarterfinals of the Division III tournament on Thursday. The No. 6 Warriors advance to face No. 2 South Hadley, Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Curry-Hicks Cage on the UMass-Amherst campus.
