CHESHIRE — In a bit of unfamiliar territory as the No. 2 seed, the Hoosac Valley girls still got their PVIAC Western Mass. Class D title defense off on the right foot.

Hoosac dispatched No. 7 Mohawk Trail with some dominant defense and a strong interior attack. The Hurricanes went without a 3-pointer and were just 4 of 14 from the foul line, but still amassed 23 field goals to win going away.

Things were a little hairy heading into the locker room after Hoosac's three-point second quarter that featured 1-of-6 free-throw shooting. Mohawk managed to cut the deficit to just 19-11. But the 'Canes finished in style with a 17-3 fourth quarter margin.

Genevieve Lagess had 17 points to lead Hoosac, while Reagan Shea added 12 and Isabella Klose had 10.

Hoosac, which has never lost a Class D Tournament game, will now face No. 3 Pioneer Valley Christian Academy, which defeated No. 6 Hopkins Academy Wednesday night 41-20.
